Ok so call me Polly Anna already, but I really hate negativity. I recently read about a study done looking at consumer attitudes on negative anti-obesity campaigns. You know what I’m talking about – an ad with a picture of a visibly obese tween girl that reads “Warning, Fat Kids Become Fat Adults”.
What the researchers found was what I hoped – people pine for positivity. Campaigns focused on encouraging positive behavior change were raved about the most, especially those that had no mention of weight or obesity at all – move more, eat your fruits & veggies.
So out out with the negative Nellie advertising and keep a positive approach for consumers to sweeten up the message.
