Want a No Fuss Meal? Simply Cook & Enjoy!

As you know we kicked off March,  this Nutrition Month featuring ways to get us into the kitchen and cook! The new popular i-Phone or i-Pad app Cookspiration was just promoted on the Apple App site for it’s popularity with over 28,000 downloads. It’ll be available for all platforms by mid-March and in French by April, 2014. Version 2 is already in the works!

Make a no-fuss meal with just six simple ingredients!

You don’t need a long list of ingredients to make a healthy, delicious meal. Get inspired with these ideas, which use just six main ingredients:

• Cheesy Frittata – eggs, spinach, diced potato, red onion, milk and old cheddar cheese baked together into a fabulous frittata
• Lemony Pasta – whole grain pasta tossed with grilled zucchini, cherry tomatoes, roasted garlic, chickpeas and freshly squeezed lemon juice
• Loaded Sweet Potato – baked sweet potato topped with black beans, green onion, tomato, cilantro and a spoonful of plain yogurt

For a quick broccoli soup made with just a handful of ingredients.

Keep it simple in the kitchen sweetie and the whole family can Simply Cook and Enjoy!

Cook Once, Eat Twice; Simply Cook & Enjoy!

Yes folks, March is Nutrition Month celebrating Simply Cook and Enjoy! A perfect way to start is by downloading Dietitian of Canada’ popular free new i-Phone or i-Pad app Cookspiration. Within a week of it’s launch has been touted by Apple as a “Best New App” now with over 23,000 downloads. Check it out, won’t you?

Cook once. Eat twice. Make weeknight cooking a breeze with planned extras.

Are you tired of reheating leftovers? Planned extras make an entirely new meal! Just make a little more food than you need for one meal and reinvent it for another. Try these easy options:

• Grilling chicken or fish? Grill a couple of extra pieces for sandwiches.
• Roasting veggies? Roast extras to toss with pasta or barley or to top a pizza.
• Serving chili? Cook a bigger pot and then make enchiladas.
• Having salad with supper? Make extra and put it in the fridge, without dressing, for tomorrow’s lunch.

Time Crunched? Simply Cook & Enjoy!

Well folks, March is Nutrition Month! Throughout March I’ll feature the theme to encourage you to Simply Cook and Enjoy! A perfect way to start is by downloading Dietitian of Canada’s popular free new i-Phone or i-Pad app Cookspiration. Within a week of it’s launch it has been touted by Apple as one of their “Best New Apps” with over 7,000 downloads. It’ll be available for all platforms by mid-March and in French by April, 2014. Cookspiration is loaded with a wide array (over 180) of recipes with the Nutrient Info of each.

Time-crunched? Good-for-you meals can take less time than take-out!

Take-out meals might seem like a simple solution, but they can be more expensive and less healthy than homemade meals. Try these tasty meal ideas, ready in 20 minutes or less:
• Quesadillas filled with black beans, diced sweet pepper, salsa and Monterey Jack cheese
• Shrimp or tofu sautéed with broccoli, garlic, ginger and a pinch of hot pepper flakes, served over whole wheat couscous
• Whole grain pita pizzas topped with mushrooms, spinach, leftover grilled chicken and mozzarella

Here’s a fantastic fish recipe that’s ready in just 15 minutes. Can cooking be any simpler? Enjoy!
